COVID-19 Screening Questions

Please read through the following questions to determine if you should sign up for a shift or register as a new volunteer.

  1. Are you experiencing any illness such as fever or respiratory symptoms?
  2. Have you traveled outside of the United States in the past 14 days to areas such as China, Iran, Italy, South Korea, or Japan?
  3. Have you traveled within the United States to an area with high levels of widespread community illness with the last 14 days to states such as Washington, California, or New York?
  4. Have you been in close contact (within 6 feet) with anyone diagnosed with COVID-19?

If you can answer no to all of these questions, you may sign up for a shift or register as a new volunteer. Thank you for your cooperation as we try to keep our clients, volunteers, and staff safe during this pandemic.

Now you're ready to choose a shift and start your volunteer journey. It is important that you sign up for your shift as we have a limited amount of spaces available. See below for a description of shifts.
 

Volunteer Shifts Available

 

Drivers

Drivers operate Hays County Food Bank vans and transport rescued food from communty partners to our warehouse for sorting. They may also transport food to distribution sites.

Drivers must have a valid Texas Driver's License and have no driving infractrions for the past 3 years. (Some offenses are acceptable.) Training will be provided. No CDL is needed.

Shifts Available:

Sunday - Friday: 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM

Wednesday: 3:45 PM - 5:30 PM



Food Rescue/Processing

These volunteers go out on food rescue runs and help weigh, sort, and build food orders for distribution. They will also help us maintain a clean environment in our warehouse.

Shifts Available:

Sunday - Friday: 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM



Warehouse

Our volunteers in the warehouse are in charge of weighing, stocking, sorting, and packing rescued food for distribution. These volunteers will also do some light cleaning.

Shifts Available:

Monday - Thursday: 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM



Distribution

Distribution volunteers interact directly with the clients. These volunteers will help pack the vans and then distribute the food directly to the people in need. Volunteers will lift and carry boxes of food and also help clean up after distribution is over.

Shifts Available:

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Wednesday: 4:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Thursday: 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM



Mobile Pantry

Twice a month, we partner with Central Texas Food Bank and help distribute food from one of their big trucks. Volunteers will assist in setting up and packing up the distribution as well as help distribute the food to those who need it. This shift takes place completely outdoors, rain or shine.

Shifts Available:

First Tuesday, Third Thursday: 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM



Special Events

Occasionally, we need volunteers to help us out at events such as fundraisers or fairs. Volunteers may dress up in costume, solicit for donations, man a booth, or even more to help raise awareness of the food bank.
