What is Turkeys Tackling Hunger?

This is the 10th year that Hays County Food Bank has delivered holiday meal boxes to low-income families throughout Hays County. We served 2,951 families in 2015 and plan to serve 3,300+ this year. We are motivated by the prospect that each and every Hays County resident can enjoy the comfort and tradition of a holiday meal prepared at home.

How does the community pitch in?

Between September 1 and November 29, individuals, schools, churches, and organizations assist us by raising food and funds for Hays County Food Bank. We then purchase all of the meal box items and store them for assembly day. This year, Title Sponsor Night Hawk Frozen Foods (Buda, Texas) will donate their time, staff, and resources to assemble the meal boxes at their production site. Once the boxes are assembled, volunteers from the community help us distribute the boxes to needy families. It truly takes a village to make this event successful! You can make a personal donation to Turkeys Tackling Hunger donation here or learn about how your school, church or organization can help here. To show you how much we appreciate you, every donation of $30.00 or more will earn you a 2016 Turkeys Tacking Hunger t-shirt. Feel free to Contact us for more information about how you can help.

Who receives a holiday meal box?

An increased cost of living, coupled with job loss and other difficulties, means many Americans are struggling to make ends meet. Anyone who is food insecure and lives in Hays County or is part of San Marcos or Hays CISD can sign up to receive a holiday meal box. Families can sign at a Hays County Food Bank food distribution, via one of its partner agencies, or with any of the school districts in Hays County (Hays CISD, San Marcos CISD, Wimberley ISD, and Dripping Springs ISD).

What will each family receive?

Each holiday meal box will include a 10-12 pound frozen turkey or ham, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans, corn, sweet potatoes, walnuts, and apple sauce.

When will this event be held?

Hays County Food Bank will distribute boxes between November 14th and November 19th of 2016.
