Backpack Program

Hays County Food Bank provides accessible food items to low-income students in Hays CISD. We started this program with Wallace Middle School and Hemphill Elementary School (Hays CISD) in August 2016. Our efforts were so successful that we have since expanded to include 7 schools in Hays CISD. In 2019, we began increasing the amount and kinds of food we give to the students. We hope to continue to grow this program.

We distribute food to our Backpack Program collaborators twice a month. Each student who participates in the program receives items that can be prepared if/when they do not have the help of a parent.

$14 can sponsor 2 kids for a month through this program.

Transitional Unsheltered Foods Program

The Transitional Unsheltered Foods or TUF Bag program serves the unsheltered population, specifically in San Marcos. We partner with the HOME Center of Central Texas, VFW of San Marcos, Salvation Army, and El Buen Pastor. This program provides food assistance to those experiencing homelessness: those who are currently unsheltered or in transitional housing without access to a stove, adequate food storage or refrigeration.

Turkeys Tackling Hunger Meal Box Program

Each year, the week before Thanksgiving, we distribute holiday meal boxes to families in need. Each box contains a frozen turkey and traditional side dishes that families can prepare at home.

$30 can provide one household with one of these meal boxes.
